Georgia's only National Heritage Area, the Augusta Canal is also the last industrial power canal still in use in America. The 8.5-mile / 14-km long waterway was built in 1845 to harness the power of the Savannah River. Today, it still provides drinking water for the city of Augusta, as well as powering several mills. Visitors can enjoy the canal on foot, by bicycle or in a kayak or canoe. Attractions along the canal include fishing, wildlife watching and picnicking.

The National Science Center's Fort Discovery in Augusta is designed to change science and mathematics from boring subjects into a dynamic and fun learning experience. Created in 1982, Augusta's Georgia Golf Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving the history of golf in the state and the region, honoring those who have made outstanding contributions to the sport and inspiring the next generation of golfers to reach their full potential. Stretching 17 acres / 7 hectares along the banks of the Savannah River are the lush gardens, while the Hall of Fame's main attraction is its 8 acres / 3 hectares of gorgeous display gardens. The gardens are dotted with bronze statues of some of golf's greats including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Ben Hogan.
